High School Head Coach – 1986 through 2002 (Daniel Murphy HS, Chaminade College Prep; Burbank HS, & North Hollywood HS)

  • Highlights:

    • 307 wins

    • 5 league championships, 9 playoff appearances 

    • 2 City Section Semi-Finals appearances, (2001, 2002)

    • 1997 City Section best overall record at 26-6, West Valley League Champions

    • Coached Freddy Sanchez (2006 NL Batting Champion, 2010 World Champion, 3-time All Star) at Burbank HS

    • 1993 – Lead the effort to put the baseball field on the campus of Burbank HS (instead of traveling to Foy Park for practice and games.) 1993 was the first season of play on their current on-campus field.

College Coaching Career – 1985-86; 2002 -2007

  • Cal State University Los Angeles (Volunteer Assistant – 2 years, 1984 &1985)

  • Los Angeles City College (Assistant Coach – 2 years, 2003 & 2004)

  • Los Angeles Valley College (Assistant Coach – 3 years, 2005, 2006, & 2007)

SCOUTING CAREER – 2007 through 2023 (Cincinnati Reds, Pittsburgh Pirates, MLB Scouting Bureau, New York Mets)

  • Highlights:

    • Involved in the drafting and signing of Tyler Glasnow, Pittsburgh Pirates- 2010, 5th Round out of Hart HS

    • Scouted for the MLB Scouting Bureau in Southern California (2012, 2013); Northern California (2014, 2015, & 2016)

    • Moneyball the Movie (2011) - Role as Scout George (Trailer #1 and Trailer #2)

SUMMER COLLEGIATE TEAM – Ventura County Pirates Baseball Club (est 2011)

  • Highlights:

    • Easton Lucas, Miami Marlins – 2019, 14th Round (Pepperdine University) became the first Pirates alum to get to the show. He made his MLB debut on September 8, 2023 with the Oakland A’s.

    • 12 Pirates Alums – MLB drafted or signed as free agents

    • 47 players without Fall commits placed at D1 schools (12 years)

    • Kyle Soberano (5 season Pirate Alum – 2017-2019; 2021, 2022) just signed his first Professional Contract on March 23, 2024, to play for the Grand Junction Jackalopes of the Pioneer League in 2024.

    • 5 seasons in the Sunset Baseball League – 5 appearances in the League Championship Final, winning titles in 2019 & 2022 - Best of the West Division

    • Trips to Fairbanks, Alaska to play the Goldpanners in 2018, 2022, and going again in 2024 for the 4th of July.

    • Trip to Madison, Wisconsin to play the entire Dairyland Collegiate League in 2023. Came home with a 4-2 record against the 6 teams in 6 days. It was a great experience as the DCL was founded by Chase Davis, VC Pirate Alum.
