Photographer Intern

 

The Ventura County Pirates Baseball Club, a collegiate wood bat summer baseball team playing games at Los Angeles Valley College, in Los Angeles, California, seeks interns with understanding and background of photography and photo journalism.
The VC Pirates is looking for qualified photographers to capture images of games, players and coaches and edit images for publication online, in social media and used in future marketing materials.

 

Ideal candidates will have their own photography equipment and experience in sports photography.


This position requires attendance at home and road games, (40 games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work four (4) to five (5) hours per game. This includes pre-game, in-game and post-game capturing of photographs of team, coaches, staff and fans and other duties assigned by the general manager and head coach. 


Candidates chosen for this position will work within a team atmosphere with one (1) to two (2) other photographers. Road game assignments will be divided equally within the photography department staff. Any lodging and per diem costs while on road game assignments will be provided by the team.


Duties for the Team Photographer will consist of, but not be limited to:


Responsibilities
•    Reports directly to the Director of Baseball Operations
•    Work in conjunction with Sports Information and Social Media interns to distribute photos
•    Capture photos of players, coaches, staff, fans at home games
•    Find appropriate locations that are safe yet provide unique perspective during games
•    Edit images post-game to be used in post-game reports and social media releases
•    Understand the basics of baseball in order to capture timely and moving images
•    Have above average knowledge of sports photography and fast motion photography
•    Provide your own camera, memory cards and editing software
•    Attend all home games and some road games


Preferred Skills
•    Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, PaintShop Pro or other image editing software
•    Photo journalism or Photography major
•    Excellent interpersonal skills
•    Ability to “make” photos, not just “take” photos
•    Sports photography experience a plus

COMPENSATION

• Stipend - $300.00

• College students can earn college credit. Accepted interns need to pre-arrange with their respective academic departments at their college/university to ensure a specific internship opportunity meets academic credit requirements.

• Meals – Interns will have meals provided when on the road traveling with players.

• Attire – Interns will be provided with team logo apparel to wear at games.
