Play by Play & Color Broadcast Intern

 

The Ventura County Pirates Baseball Club, a collegiate wood bat summer baseball team playing games at Los Angeles Valley College, in Los Angeles, California, seeks interns with strong knowledge of baseball and broadcasting.


The Pirates Baseball Club is looking for qualified broadcasters to perform play-by-play and color commentary during games. All games are live-streamed via YouTube to a live audience.


Duties for Broadcasters will consist of, but are not limited to:


Learning Objectives:
•    Will learn to keep viewers engaged in game activities by describing the action on the field for live-stream audiences.
•    Will learn to work with a partner to accurately provide play-by-play and color analysis of collegiate summer baseball games.
•    Will gain valuable experience announcing in real-time baseball game action to a wide audience.

This position requires attendance at home games, (approximately 18-20 games spanning from June through early August) applicants are expected to work approximately five (5) hours per game. 


Ideal candidates will be working towards, or have completed a bachelor’s degree in Communications, Sports Management, Marketing, Business or a related field from an accredited college or university.


Responsibilities
•    Reports directly to the Director of Baseball Operations
•    Broadcast Play-by-Play and color analysis for all home and possibly away games, includes pre-game, in-game and post-game
•    Research current team players and opponents for analysis
•    Content contributor to social media 
•    Rosters and Stats
•    Sponsor Interaction and Commercial Announcements
•    Streaming Games
•    Interviewing players
•    Cleaning and maintaining of broadcast booth


Preferred Skills
•    Broadcast Journalism or Broadcasting background
•    Excellent interpersonal and interviewing skills
•    Previous play-by-play experience a plus
•    Color analyst position, previous baseball playing experience a plus

COMPENSATION

• Stipend - $300.00

• College students can earn college credit. Accepted interns need to pre-arrange with their respective academic departments at their college/university to ensure a specific internship opportunity meets academic credit requirements.

• Meals – Interns will have meals provided when on the road traveling with players.

• Attire – Interns will be provided with team logo apparel to wear at games.
