Pirates Offense Comes to Life in Tie Game vs CCL Arroyo Seco

On June 9, 2022 the VC Pirates played to a 5-5 tie against the the Arroyo Seco Saints of the California Collegiate League in Pasadena. The game was called due to a city curfew on the field lights.


While pitching has carried the Pirates so far, the offense led the way against the Saints. .


“it was nice to finally see a lot of guys who were struggling get some base knocks and score some wary runs,” Pirates head coach George Vranau said.


The Pirates bats came to life early scoring all five of their runs in the first three innings. The Pirates’ player of the game, second baseman Lee Brandzel showed off his clutch hitting ability to going two for five for the night with three RBI.


Brandzel’s showcase included a two-run double extending the Pirates early lead. When asked about his approach during that third inning at bat, he said “I was just trying to put the barrel on the ball, keeping my same approach”.


Center fielder Dan Laughery again had himself a night, going two for five and throwing out a runner tagging from third at home.


Coach Vranau also commented on the strength of Pirates’ pitching. Although they got unlucky during some stress situations they’ve been tough to face. Reliever Mark Parra had himself a good night going 2.2 inning scoreless giving up two hits and giving up no runs.


The VC Pirates will face the Shepherds on June 10, 2022 at La Habra High School at 4 pm PST.
