LONG BEACH - Yesterday the Ventura County Pirates prevailed after a dramatic back-and-forth battle with the SoCal Sparrows, eventually emerging victorious with a 7-3 win. And then in the evening game, the Long Beach Legends rallied late to avoid being upset by the Signal Hill Oilers, finally gaining the lead in the bottom of the 8th inning and holding on to win 9-7.
That means the Pirates will seek to book their ticket to Fullerton tonight if they can hold off the dominant Legends. In their last meeting, the Legends required an extra inning to claim the win by a single run, although the Pirates' five defensive errors certainly didn't do themselves any favors. While the Legends hold a 4-1 win-loss record over the Pirates, they have only scored four more runs than they've allowed by the Pirates (29-25), and the last four decisions have all been one-run ballgames.
First pitch is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the game will be broadcast live on Facebook at http://facebook.com/SunsetBaseballLeague
