After a 6-4 win on Friday July 29, 2022 at Cal Poly Pomona the VC Pirates secured another Best of the West Championship after the IV Pirates conceded the second game, giving the VC the 2-0 series victory.

The Pirates started off well getting a 1-0 lead in the second inning. They consistently kept scoring runs every couple of innings. The Pirates had three players of the game, Nolan Lingley who went 3 for 4 with 3 RBIS, Dan Laughery who went 2 for 3 with an RBI, and Darren Taylor who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBI.

When asked about his double that sparked so much emotion in the dugout, Darren Taylor said he was thinking “Last at bat, I was trying to swing as hard as I could, hoping I would get a fastball, I closed my eyes and hit it. Thought it was gone”. Emotion was a major key in these games, with emotions coming out of each dugout.

During his last interview of the 2022 summer season, Coach George Vranau had this to say about his team’s performance. “They never gave in, they bent but they didn’t break. They got the job done and it was tremendous”. He later went on to thank all of the players for making this such a special season to him.
