A dominant performance by two Pirates Pitchers lead the VC Pirates to a 3-0 shoutout win over the Long Beach Legends Sunday Afternoon at Los Angeles Valley College, keeping the Pirates undefeated at home.

The Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning off an Andrew Tovar double that scored Darren Taylor. Then in the fourth inning, the Pirates added another run after Jovan Camacho stole home during a Troy Anderson fly out with Darren Taylor caught in a run down between first and second.

In the bottom of the 5th, an RBI single by Ryan Camacho scored Eli Paton to give the Pirates a 3-0 lead.

On the bump, starting RHP Brandon Doehne pitched 6 scoreless innings, walking zero batters, recording 6 strikeouts, and earning the win.

“My motto was to just keep it simple. There’s a lot of things going on whether it’s mechanics or whatever and just focus on getting people out,” Doehne said.

Reliever LHP Josh Yosfan then pitched 3 scoreless innings to secure the 3-0 victory in which he walked zero batters and struck out four.

“The mindset is to challenge guys, the goal is to make sure they don’t get on me and get on my pitches,” Yosfan said.

The win was the Pirates third shutout win of the year and brings their league record to 8-3 as they remain in second place.

“The best game that they pitched all season, they went right after the hitters, we didn’t walk anybody and we forced them to put the ball in play,” Head Coach George Vranau.

The Pirates will look to build off of a great performance when they head to Santa Barbara tomorrow afternoon to take on the SB Foresters in a non league game at 4:30.
