Pirates on the road once again

Coming off back-to-back home victories, The Pirates, (5-9-1) (4-2), head on the road to Azusa Pacific University in preparation for the East LA Dodgers. This will be the second matchup against the Dodgers this season, the first coming back on June 8 where the Pirates won 2-0. The Pirates need to find success on the road as they have had their struggles, going just 2-9-1 thus far on the road, and 1-5 on their 6 game Alaska road trip against an elite Goldpanners team.

The Main Gun

RHP Brandon Doehne is set to make his third start of the season for Ventura County. He’s currently 1-1 with 14 ⅓ innings pitched, 9 strikeouts and a 5.02 ERA. Last time the Pirates faced the Dodgers Dohne made an appearance pitching 2 innings, allowing 2 hits and 0 runs against him. The 6’4 right hander is coming off a tough outing against Inland Valley last Wednesday finishing with 3 IP, 4 ER, 7H and 2K. He will look to bounce back tonight against the 5-5 East LA Dodgers.

Who’s hot?

Offensively, Ryan Camacho has led the way for the pirates, compiling hits and rbi in the top of the Pirates order. Ryan Camacho is sitting at an absurd .476 average, racking up 20 hits and taking 22 total bases to start the season. As of late however, The bats of Robbie Treto and former league MVP Darren Taylor have come to life. In Treto’s last six games, he’s batting .363 with 3 homeruns, 11 RBI and 8 runs scored. As for Taylor, he has reached safely each of the past four games batting .357 during that span with 2 homeruns, 6 RBI and 3 runs scored. On the pitching side of things, pitchers have stepped up the past two games by shutting out the Shepherds and holding the Sentinels to two runs. Josh Yosfan in particular has been lights out, striking out 12 batters, and having a 0.00 ERA in 11 innings of work. Look for the Pirates to turn to him out of the bullpen if needed.
