The Ventura County Baseball Club announced its 40-game summer season schedule, which includes an affiliate schedule with seven California Collegiate League teams and nine non-CCL opponents.
Ventura County will play the toughest schedule in its 8 year history, including two 2017 league champions: OC Riptide (California Collegiate League) and OC Surf (Sunset Baseball League). In addition, the team will travel to Santa Barbara twice (June 15 and July 3) to take on the Foresters, who in 2017 made their fifth trip to the NBC National Championship game since 2003. In their only meeting last summer, Ventura defeated Santa Barbara 7-1. The Conejo Oaks, who in 2016, lost to the Foresters in the CCL Championship game, will host Ventura County on June 13 and July 1. The Oaks handed Ventura their only 2 losses against CCL teams in 2017.
“I’m excited about the challenges our 2018 schedule presents, “General Manager George Vranau said. “Last summer we went 5-2 against CCL opponents; however, it’ll be much tougher this summer for two reasons. We won’t be an unknown and surprise teams like we did last summer, and this season we play 16 games against seven CCL opponents, definitely a much larger sample size.”
VC will open the season with a six-game road trip starting with a two-game series against the Academy Barons, beginning on Monday, June 4. The road trip continues on June 6 with a rematch of last July’s Sunset Baseball League Championship Game at Blair Field, Long Beach against the OC Surf. Next up will be a match-up with the SoCal Catch on June 7. And after a day off, the road trip concludes with a double header against the Coastal Cubs on June 9. Ventura will be playing the Cubs and Catch for the first time in team history.
In addition to the Cubs and Catch, other first time opponents include OC Riptide on June 16 and 20, Inland Valley Buccaneers on June 19, Southern Nevada for a June 23 doubleheader, followed by a single game on June 24, CCL opponent San Luis Obispo Blues on June 29 and July 5, a doubleheader with the Fresno Bears on July 24 and a 2-game, home/away series with the San Diego Force on July 25 at Valley College and at the Force on July 26.
Ventura will travel to Fairbanks, Alaska to take on the Goldpanners for a 7-game series, July 12-17, and to Humboldt County for a 3-game weekend series against the Crabs on July 20 - 22.
