On a scorching day in LA Habra, the Bucs (3-1) bats went cold in crucial moments, as Ventura County fell to the SoCal Shepherds (1-3) of the Sunset Baseball League Best of the West Division 5-1 on Wednesday.

Ventura County did manage seven hits in the game, with third baseman Thomas Keller going 2-3 and shortstop Robbie Treto smashing a double to the base of the fence, but none of the Bucs hits scored runs.

“I was a little frustrated with the hitters,” Bucs head coach Evan O’Meara said. “We got on base enough to score runs, and we did not take advantage of the opportunities that were given to us.”

On the mound, Luke Hempel, JP Claire, and Jackson Briscoe were stellar for the Bucs, as they combined for 5 innings pitched without allowing an earned run.

The Bucs begin SBL League play with a home game against the South Bay Sliders at LA Valley College Thursday, June 17th at 4:30pm.
