GCCL Bucs Take 2-1 Series Win Against PFA Braves



The GCCL Bucs clashed with the PFA Braves in a thrilling three-game series, commencing Friday, July 14th at 4 PM at Los Angeles Valley College. The second and third games followed on Saturday, July 15th at 11 AM and 3 PM, respectively, both at LAVC. With the Bucs holding an undefeated record against the Braves this season, the series promised intense competition in the regular-season matchup.


Game 1


In the opening game on Friday, the GCCL Bucs delivered a dominant performance, securing a resounding 9-2 victory over the PFA Braves. The Bucs wasted no time making their presence felt, exploding for six runs in the bottom of the 1st inning. A combination of well-placed hits, disciplined base running, and patient at-bats allowed the Bucs to build a comfortable lead early in the game.


Daniel Munoz was a standout player for the Bucs. He made a significant impact with three hits, one run, and two RBIs, alongside a well-timed walk. Alex Howard also impressed with a crucial triple and two RBIs.


Pitcher Danny Slaske displayed excellent control and poise, covering the mound for six innings, allowing only one run and striking out five batters. His performance significantly contributed to the Bucs' triumph.


The Braves, determined to mount a comeback, scored one run in the 7th inning, but the Bucs' strong defensive efforts ensured they could not mount a substantial rally. The GCCL Bucs won 9-2 in the series opener.


Game 2


The second game, part of a doubleheader on Saturday at 11 AM, saw the GCCL Bucs continue their winning streak. They defeated the PFA Braves with a convincing 7-2 scoreline. The game was limited to seven innings but offered no shortage of action and excitement.


Once again, the Bucs displayed early prowess, scoring two runs in the first inning. Despite a resilient effort from the Braves, the Bucs managed to widen the gap with a four-run outburst in the 5th inning, securing their second consecutive victory.


Sean Parkinson stood out as a key player, contributing two hits, one run, and two RBIs. Sean Elsee showcased his versatility, scoring two runs on two hits while also displaying pitching prowess with three strikeouts in two innings.


Pitcher Austin Nimri demonstrated skillful command on the mound, pitching five innings, striking out five batters, and allowing just one walk amidst five hits.


Game 3


The third and final game of the series, also part of the doubleheader at 3 PM on Saturday, witnessed a spirited battle. However, the PFA Braves emerged victorious, overcoming the GCCL Bucs 16-8.


The Braves set the tone early, scoring six runs in the first inning and adding two more in the second inning. Although the Bucs fought back valiantly, responding with two runs in the fourth inning, the Braves continued their offensive onslaught. This led to a 13-4 advantage in the 5th inning.


Nomar Vasquez and Maximo Garcia showcased their batting prowess, contributing crucial hits and RBIs for the Bucs. Vasquez finished the day with two hits and two RBIs while Garcia contributed two hits, two runs, and 3 RBIs. Pitcher Deon Sylvester held his ground, facing 19 batters and striking out five while allowing six runs and six hits.


The GCCL Bucs ultimately secured a series win, taking two of the three games against the PFA Braves. While the Bucs emerged victorious in the first two games with scores of 9-2 and 7-2, respectively, the Braves retaliated in the third game, clinching a 16-8 win.


The GCCL Bucs' performance in the series showcased their resilience and prowess on the field. As they continue their season, the Bucs look ahead to their next challenge against the Thunder on Tuesday, July 18th at 3 PM at Channel Islands High School. The team's remarkable series win has bolstered their confidence and set the stage for exciting matchups ahead.
